Product Description
Black obsidian is volcanic glass - formed when lava cools rapidly - giving it a distinctive very dark, near-black color and a glassy texture unlike crystalline stone powders. Our coarse-grind black obsidian sand preserves the largest visible particles, showing the stone's characteristic color at its deepest.
For Jewelry Makers & Crafters
Coarse black obsidian sand is ideal for resin casting, crystal bezels, epoxy river tables, and mosaic inlay. The very dark particles create striking contrast in clear or white resin and pair beautifully with metallic accents - gold, copper, and bronze in particular. Also popular for gothic and industrial-themed jewelry and art.
For Wood Inlay Artists
The coarse grind is a standout choice for wood inlay. Pack into routed grooves, set with epoxy, sand flush, and finish for a dramatic dark inlay against light or medium wood tones. Works equally well in darker wood for a subtle, seamless effect.
For Orgonite & Energy Art
Black obsidian is widely used in orgonite pyramid casting. Layer it with metal shavings and resin for a bold, near-black base layer in pyramid and sculpture work.
For finer applications, see our Black Obsidian Fine powder.
